In store data
How AWAL releases show up.
- 01
The label field shows the artist’s label or imprint, not the distributor.
- 02
The ℗ line often reads “under exclusive license to” a label, which means someone other than the artist controls the recording.
- 03
ISRCs usually come from the label, so the registrant code points to the label rather than the distributor.
Common questions
AWAL questions.
How can I tell if a song was released through AWAL?
Paste the song’s Spotify or TikTok link into Pulse and it shows the distributor. By hand, check the source in the Spotify credits, then the ℗ line, the ISRC registrant code and the UPC prefix. See the full guide.
Does the label name on Spotify say AWAL?
Usually not. The label field shows the artist’s label or imprint, so you need the distributor lookup to see AWAL.
Is an artist on AWAL signed?
Not necessarily to AWAL itself. AWAL often works with labels, so check the label field and the ℗ line to see which company controls the recording. See how to tell if an artist is signed.
